2016 Oscars

The 88th Academy Awards were ones to remember. There were many memorable highlights that will be remembered.

There was some controversy surrounding the awards however. All of the actor/actress nominees were white, and there were no black nominees.

The night started out with the opening monologue by host Chris Rock. There were some negative criticism over it because of his opinion over the controversies. But personally, I thought that it was just Chris Rock and that it was hilariously entertaining. The Revenant was the film with the most nominations, with 12 total. The anticipation was all on Revenant star Leonardo DiCaprio, who was hoping to finally win his first Oscar ever. But guess what, Mr DiCaprio finally won what he had been hoping for for the past 20 years. He won the award for Best Actor.

When this occurred, the audience gave him a standing ovation. Along with that, the moment broke the record for most Tweets in one minute. In the first minute, there were 440K tweets over the event. Also from The Revenant, director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu won his second straight award for Best Director, winning Birdman the previous year, which had also won Best Picture 2015. Throughout the whole night, Mad Max: Fury Road won the most awards, which were all mostly technical awards. It won Achievement in Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Editing, Hairstyle/Costume Design, Best Makeup/Hair Styling, and Best Costume Design. After around four hours, it was time for the biggest award of the night, Best Picture.  The eight nominees were Bridge of Spies, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Revenant, The Martian, Room, Spotlight, Brooklyn, and The Big Short. The Revenant was the favorite, with it’s 12 nominations, but Spotlight came out huge in the end to come away as the big winner

I love reading your articles and I do agree about how funny the opening statement was. I also like how you added a couple of pictures on the people who own the Oscars. I also like how you added bibliography’s to show what websites you used.

I love how you added a lot of detail to your article such as how you said why a certain movie won an Oscar. I also liked how you had a lot of information about the Oscars, things I didn’t even know. For example, I didn’t know that because Leonardo DiCaprio won an Oscar, that broke the record for most tweets in one minute. I also enjoyed reading about how DiCaprio finally got an Oscar for Best Actor. That made me very glad to hear. I liked how you added pictures, and that you added a bibliography. Overall, I thought your article was very well written.

I like the way they talked about all the movies. Instead of favoring one. It was cool how they added a lot of detail.
