VISUAL THINKING STRATEGY- PICTURE OF THE WEEK 12.11.17

***************

AND THE ANSWER IS:  ………………

This week’s image comes from a post on the Lively Morgue, a Times Tumblr that features images chosen from The Times’s “morgue,” a physical library of photos and newspaper clippings dating to the mid-19th century.

The original article, “Only in America, Only in New York,” from Dec. 14, 1977, reads:

A reindeer on a tram? What’s so strange about that? One New Yorker thought nothing of it as she traveled, undisturbed and unimpressed, to Roosevelt Island on the Manhattan tramway. Her fellow passenger was going to the island to be the star attraction at a Christmas party for children.

The photographer is Chester Higgins Jr.

It looks like the old woman has a deer for a pet on a train. I see a collar and a leash on the dear and the old woman is sitting like nothing is happening. We can look deeper into the picture and look at tiny details.

It is the 50’s and a person brought a deer on a bus.

I see an old woman on a bus with what looks like a baby deer tied to a post in front of her. I say this because there’s a rope tied around the baby deer’s neck. I also can see that’s she’s on a bus or vehicle of some sort because of the window’s and the blurry outside.

In the image, is traveling with a deer. It also seems like the time they have traveled together is extensive given how nonchalantly she is going about her business as a deer stands right in front of her. The deer might also be tamed since there appears to be some sort of leash going towards its neck and what could be a bow on the back of its neck.

In this picture, it looks like a lady is on a bus crocheting and minding her own business and someone is holding onto a rope that is tied around a deer. I say this because the lady is sitting down and she doesn’t look like she cares that the deer in right in front of her. Also, the rope around the deer’s neck is in the air an not lose on the floor. I looked at the surroundings to figure out my answer.

I think that it is a deer going maybe to a Christmas Farm and going there to be shown to the kids. I say this because it looks like the deer is traveling with an old lady so that’s why I said that. We can find more on where it was going and why they were going to that place.

The lady sitting right next to an animal which appears to have horns sitting on a moving vehicle of some sort. I think there is a women that is knitting some type of clothing for a deer that is standing in front of her. I think they are riding a train and the deer is her and its chained up. I think that the deer if hers because the deer is right in front of her face and she doesn’t seem to care. Then, she is knitting something for I think it is something for the deer. Also, in the background you can see a city and it looks like she is sitting on a train. I can find more information on this by looking on the news about a deer and women o a train or ride.

In the picture I think it’s like exporting an important animal and an important person. I think that the animal is like an important royal animal. The person also looks like she’s watching the animal. I believe this because it looks like there isn’t any other people besides the lady. Also, you can see that the reindeer has a leash on him/her to protect it.

  15. Mariah Stowers on December 11th, 2017 12:27 pm

Okay so I think this lady probably owns the reindeer because she seems to be comfortable with it being next to her, but I also think that she might be visiting the reindeer kinda like when people go and ride horses. They seem to be going somewhere or on some type of ride because they seem to be on a cart or on a type of bus. She is also knitting something it seems like some maybe thats what she doing to keep herself occupied. And the reindeer must be allowed to be there right now because it has a leash on keeping it in one place. The reindeer also seems very calm as if this isn’t something new to it.

I think this is an old lady riding a tram with her baby deer. I say this because it almost looks like they are going somewhere to deliver this deer because by its leash there is a bow almost like it is a present for someone. I also think they are going somewhere farther away because the lady is taking her time to knit.

I think that the young buck is the lady’s pet around Christmas because it has a leash and the deer doesn’t seem scared. It is standing fairly close to her and it doesn’t look like it is struggling. It looks as if they are inn some kind of vehicle and it looks foggy outside so maybe it’s snowing. The lady is also wearing a coat. Maybe she is making something for the deer because she is knitting.

I believe the lady is donating the reindeer to a zoo. I say this because it would seem like a possible destination to go to in their cable car. If you look closely, you can see the faint outline of a city in the background, so my claims wouldn’t be much of a stretch.

I think that this is supposed to be on a farm transport. The reason I think that is because there is a deer in a moving vehicle and the lady there is trying to make sure none of them get rowdy. What else I see that make me think that are a deer and that there is a lady sitting there while there is a car with windows.

In the picture, it looks as if this old women has a deer as a pet. Her face expression is as if nothing is happening, as if it a casual day. In the picture it also looks as if a deer has a collar around his neck. The animal is wrapped around a pole next to the women. The setting almost looks as if they are on a subway, in a train, or car. In this point I would assume a train. To find more I would love o see the attached article to see what is really going on

This picture looks like a women is taking a reindeer somewhere important. I say this because the woman is clearly not surprised, as the reindeer is on a leash and is tied to the side of what looks like a train. If we look through the window I can just barely see buildings in the distance. Maybe the reindeer is fake, and is being transported to a place where “Santa’s Sleigh” is being displayed.

There is a old lady knitting on what looks like a bus and a deer staring at her. I think that the deer was being taking onto the bus to be let free in the wild because on the outside of the window it looks like large buildings. I also think that the woman has some food inside of her purse and that is why the deer is staring at her.

  39. Franklin Paguada on December 11th, 2017 2:21 pm

What i think is going on in the picture is probably something around Christmas and the lady and the reindeer have nothing to do with each other. The lady is acting like the deer isn’t even there right now and just knitting like she normally would while the deer watches her. You can see that the deer is tied up to something so he probably belongs to some else.

I think that the woman is taking care of the deer as it is one of her own child. It looks like the woman is knitting something for her or the deer to wear. I think that the woman is on a travel type of bus because there is a huge open area by her and that you can’t even see the roof. I wonder if the woman is knitting something for the deer.

I find that the elderly lady has a lot of bags and the caribou is looking outside.
